Trojan targets World of Warcraft gamers

Security watchers have discovered a Trojan that’s designed to steal user names and passwords from World of Warcraft players.

Wowcraft, which also attempts to disable security software packages on compromised PCs, has been planted on maliciously constructed websites. Unprotected Windows users visiting these sites can get infected through malicious browser pop-ups. The malware also spreads through infectious email attachments or as files downloaded from P2P networks.

Sony ends PS One production

Sony has stopped manufacturing the PSOne - the redesigned version of the original PlayStation aka the SCPH-100 - it has emerged. With the PS3 due to ship in November, the PS2 is set to become the entry-level system, so there’s little need to keep making PSOnes.

However, Sony will continue to promote and sell the system while stocks run down. The PS2 can run PSOne games, as will the PS3 and - thanks to an upcoming games download service - the PSP.

Nintendo vs Sony

Who exactly is winning the handheld wars? Sony says it is, and Nintendo says it is. Sony says the PSP is selling faster, from launch, than the PSOne or PS2. The PSP is selling neck-and-neck in the US and Europe with Nintendo’s DS. In Japan, however, the DS is clearly trouncing the PSP. Whatever the reality is of who is edging out who, Sony’s learning some tough lessons in the handheld market. For the first time in a while it isn’t a clear market leader. And, worse, not only are the fanboys not with Sony, but key software corporations aren’t either.

‘Nut Case’ gang rampage - GTA cited

A member of the Oakland, California “Nut Case” gang who allegedly indulged in an orgy of murder, attempted murder, robbery and kidnapping could face the death penalty if the jury at his trial finds him guilty on commission of a robbery and multiple murder raps.

Demarcus Ralls is the first Nut Case to stand trial for a six-week crime spree in late 2002 and early 2003 which “terrorized Oakland residents”, ktvu.com reports.

Prostitutes demand GTA ban

Ladies of the night have jumped on the pop a cap in GTA bandwagon by demanding that “all parents and all gamers boycott Grand Theft Auto“, GameSpot reports.

That’s the call emanating from the Sex Workers Outreach Project (SWOP) USA website, which says that “as concerned parents ourselves, we wish to inform other parents of the potential danger extremely violent video games pose to children”.
