eBay fixed-price service
Is eBay is going into near competition with the people who made it rich, its online sellers?
It’s launched a aunched a new fixed-price shopping service, justifying it with by claiming it’s aimed at, “people who find online auctions too time-consuming, too nerve-racking or just plain frustrating,” says the San Jose Mercury News.
All of the above would certainly apply to eBay, together with other superlatives.
Dubbed ‘eBay Express,’ the new service boasts its own Web address and a new search engine that was designed to allow more targeted shopping,” says
But, “Unlike eBay’s main site, where shoppers can choose to enter an online bid or, in some cases, offer to meet a suggested ‘buy-it-now’ bid for items that are new or used, shoppers at the eBay Express site will pay posted prices for new merchandise only.”
Other differences include a, “more detailed search capability and a shopping cart option that allows buyers to purchase all items at once from multiple sellers,” says MarketWatch, adding:
“If Express is successful, however, Citigroup analyst Mark Mahaney said in a research note the payoff could be a good one for eBay. For one thing, the site could lead to more listings being successfully closed since they’re available on Express and the core eBay site, he said.
“Also, PayPal should get more traction because it’s ’significantly’ promoted on Express and sellers must accept it, Mahaney said. And if Express gains momentum with buyers, it could lead to sellers increasing their overall business with eBay, he added.”
